Clay kneading is an ancient and sophisticated technique that uses two or more types of clay of different colors to create natural and organic patterns by kneading and pressing them together. Patterns can be cloud-like, wave-like, spirals, and braids. The clay kneading technique originated in China during the Tang Dynasty, and similar techniques exist in Japan and Korea. This technique has been passed down for generations by skilled Yixing potters. Clay kneading requires skill and patience, as the artist has to control the proportion, direction, and pressure of the clay to achieve the desired effect.

Douqing Ni Clay: Douqing Ni (Bean Green Clay) is a rare type of clay blended from a variety of original ore clays. The colour of this clay after firing is light green with a touch of grey. Teapots made from Douqing clay maximise the flavour of the tea and are ideal for brewing oolong teas, such as Tieguanyin.
