What are Jujubes?

Jujubes – also sometimes referred to as “Chinese dates” – are small, reddish-brown fruits that are similar to berries. Originating in China, the fruit can be consumed dried, fresh, cooked, or in beverage form. Some people choose to enjoy them as a natural snack or guilt-free dessert, as jujubes have a sweet flavour. Known for having healing benefits, the fruit is sometimes made medicinal capsules. They are nutritionally-packed with vitamin C, vitamin A, protein, potassium, iron, calcium, and small amounts of other vitamins.

What are the benefits of Jujube tea?

Due to the powerful healing qualities of jujubes, jujube tea has many benefits. On a basic level, the tea assists in reducing anxiety and treating sleep disorders. Full of antioxidants, the tea is helpful in clearing up skin conditions. It can also treat digestive issues such as constipation.

Offering a calming, comforting quality, the jujube has helped with treating insomnia and anxiety. It is an anti-inflammatory known to protect the liver and kidneys. Studies suggest jujube tea can improve immune function and, amazingly, suppress the growth of cancerous cells in the body.

Where are Jujubes teas produced?

Jujube tea is produced in Ningxia, China. The fruit is native to China, where growing conditions are ideal to develop the nutrients. Now the trees that this fruit grows on are planted in many other places throughout the world. Production of the drink requires carefully picking fresh jujubes in order to make a high-quality tea

How can wild jujube rejuvenate the liver?

Scientific research published in the medical journal Transplantation Proceedings in 2010 shows significant potential of jujube tea extracts in the treatment of liver damage and the oxidative stress caused by free radicals. The study aimed at measuring jujube's healing abilities after a 40-minute loss of blood flow to the liver. The results showed that the high antioxidant content of the jujube had significant positive effects on subjects who received the extract over one week period.

Does jujube work against stress?

Yes. the potential of the jujube to magnify relaxation and calm was a pillar in ancient Chinese herbal remedies. Modern day research performed at South China University and Technology has confirmed to this by exhibiting how jujube extracts induce hypnotic effects by limiting monoaminergic activity, or the release of stimulating neurotransmitters. The overall effect of the tea was "prolonged sleep time" to which researchers also credit the saponins of jujube, or its metabolic properties and the fruit's main bioactive factors.

Very interesting herbal tea. The taste of this jujube tea reminds me of the taste of 'apple'. I brewed this tea right after boiling, good for steeping twice. (Posted on 4/29/13)
