Yixing Gelukskikker Theedier

Gelukskikkers zijn de meest populaire soort 'theedier' die je zal vinden op de traditionele theetafel. Door deze regelmatig te spoelen en voeden met thee zal het oppervlak van de kikker steeds gladder en glansrijker worden.
Deze gelukspad is volledig met de hand gemaakt en uniek. Hierdoor kan er kleine verschillende in kleur en grootte ontstaan.
Liu Hai & the pottige kikker
You may wonder why this tea pet toad has 3 legs and why it symbolises fortune. Its popularity of frogs/toads as a tea pet originates from a legend from the 10th century.
The stories goes that Liu Hai was a divine taoist, who one day met an evil monster. He convinced the monster to stop hurting others and become a good being. He succeed, and the monster returned to his original self, a three legged toad.
Afterwards, he became friends with this special frog, who loves not only water, but also gold. When the toad jumped in a well, Lui Hai could only pull him up by throwing a cord of gold coins. Hence, the cord of gold shown on the back of the toad tea pet on this page.
As Lui Hai often donated gold coins to the poor, he and his from are often associated wealth and fortune.
