A doubled glaze tenmoku chawan (bowl). Natural variation during the firing process results in unique patterns.

This tenmoku bowl is the result of glazing natural clay with a black ceramic coating that forms the base of the cup. Following this, the artist adds another layer of blue and brown ceramic, resulting in a magnificent melting effect.
Tenmoku or ‘Tianmu’ means ‘heaven eye’ and is a term that Japanese use to refers to a special type of teaware originated from the Song Dynasty. In China, we also call this Jian Zhan teaware. It’s characterised by teaware with unique glaze that result from natural variation that happens the cups are fired in high temperature.
