What's the point?
So one day we got this email from one of our customers: "Please forgive me for asking this question, but what's the point of owning a tea pet?" Why would I want to pour tea over it? Is it just to keep me busy?"
We would like to take this opportunity to explain why tea pets exists. When making Chinese tea the traditional way, it's a common to first rinse the leaves before you make tea of it. The tea liquor resulting from this rinse is then used to preheat the teaware as well. Because it's a bit of a waste to discard the tea, tea masters love to pour the tea over a tea pet. Usually the creature is put on a tea tray/table that has a drain, so they don't make a mess.
Mostly tea mascots are just artifacts that add a little fun to your tea experience. Tea geeks in China love them, because they believe that pouring tea over the pets can give them a soul over time. You don't have to believe it, but it's a heartwarming idea isn't it?!
