'Food & Drink' is 'Drink & Food' in China because of tea

Food is more important than drinks. This should sound logical to everyone. The funny thing is that 'food & drink' is referred to as 'drink & food' (饮食) in China. Ask any Chinese why it's the opposite from most other language, and nobody can give you an answer better than the fact that they're just used to it. Our guess (and perhaps wishful thinking) is because is such an important beverage in Chinese culture.

As another saying goes:

"Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one."
